Position Summary 

Working at Mental Health America of Northern Kentucky and Southwest Ohio as a community-based Peer Recovery Supporter serving Warren and Clinton counties in Ohio, is a dynamic role. You will use personal lived experience to demonstrate recovery is possible.  You will be working with a team of Peer Recovery Supporters to assist participants with developing short and long-term support as needed to help them reach their goals. In addition, you will provide support in Warren and Clinton County specialty dockets including Mental Health Court, Recovery Court and Veteran’s Court and in the Warren County jail setting. What you’ll do 

  • Serve as a role model for recovery  

  • Work with staff and community partners (Detention Centers, Homeless Shelters, Soup Kitchens, Specialty Courts etc.) to connect individuals to peer support  

  • Share community resources and assist participants to meet basic needs 

  • Complete intake and enrollment process with participants 

  • Assess needs and assist participants with determining their goals and how to achieve them  

  • Help participants build social skills, teach self-advocacy skills, establish trust and collaborative relationships and create wellness management strategies 

  • Plan and facilitate support groups necessary for participants to build recovery capital 

  • Data entry to ensure quality communication and timely reporting 

What you’ll need 

  • Minimum requirement is personal lived experience with mental health and/or substance use 

  • Demonstrate a strong recovery story and be active in maintaining your own personal recovery 

  • Active Peer Support Specialist Certification in Ohio 

  • Ability to independently plan, organize, and manage daily responsibilities with minimal oversight 

  • Ability to regularly travel within Warren and Clinton counties 

  • Ability to maintain healthy professional boundaries while fostering respectful and collaborative working relationships with community partners and internal teams. 

  • Models and encourages healthy boundaries with the participants to promote psychological safety, accountability, and mutual respect. 

  • Willingness to participate in continuous learning and training 

  • Previous experience in a certified peer support specialist role- preferred but not required
